Hi, chantelletaylor2014 & welcome.
WordPress gives 2 types of homepage options--a static homepage, such as you might see in Amazon.com, for example, & your blog posts being your homepage. A good example of the latter is http://www.holenews.org
As you can see in that latter case, the homepage is simply a blog.
That's the easiest type of homepage to create. If, however, you want a static homepage, then please do the following:
* Go to 'Pages > Add New' & create a page. Give it a title, & create your content. This will be your home page. Once finished, publish it.
* If you also wish to have a blog, then create a 2nd page. Give it a title, i.e., blog, announcements, latest happenings, etc., but do *not* put any content there. Again, don't forget to publish it.
With the desired page(s) created, go to 'Settings > Reading. Select the 'Static Page' option for your homepage, & select the page you created for that purpose from the dropdown. If you created a posts page as well for your blog, select it for the Post Page option in the 2nd dropdown list.
Please let us know if that helps?
