@FirstNick I believe your issues lies in your homepage being set to be your post page (which is a list of blog posts).
To solve this, first create a new page to be used for the static page(w/ slider & pictures) and then create a second page to display you blog posts, call it blog if you like.
Then go to your Admin panel > Settings > Reading.
At the top where is says 'Front page displays',
Select "A static page (select below)"
And then set the 'Front page" and "Post Page" (You also don't have to have a post page, just leave it at select)
Scroll down and save changes, then refresh you website.
